    The Washington Nationals are close to trading slugger Michael Morse to the Seattle Mariners, according to sources, as part of a three-team trade that will get them back prospect A.J. Cole. The Nationals traded Cole to the Oakland Athletics last winter as part of the package for left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Published January 16 2013

    The made official the signing of five previously-reported minor league signings on Tuesday, announcing minor league deals with left-handers Fernando Abad, Bill Bray and Brandon Mann, right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and infielder Will Rhymes.   • Source: Nationals agree with Rafael Soriano on two-year, $28 million deal (UPDATED)

    The Washington Nationals agreed to terms with Rafael Soriano on a two-year, $28 million deal that includes a vesting option for the 2015 season Tuesday afternoon. If the former Yankees closer finishes 120 games in the next two seasons, he will earn $14 million in 2015 as well. Published January 15 2013

  • Nationals not featured in first 11 announced ESPN Sunday Night Baseball games

    The Washington Nationals were shutout of the first announced portion of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball schedule, not getting plucked for any of the first 11 scheduled games on the national network.     Major League Baseball announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with the Major League Baseball Players Union to expand the drug testing program -- including in-season, random and unannounced blood tests for human growth hormone, as well as one designed to catch those abusing testosterone.     Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was in Puerto Rico on Wednesday scouting veteran right-hander Javier Vazquez, who was pitching for the Criollos de Caguas. Published January 9 2013

  • Adam LaRoche pushed for no-trade clause but Nationals refused

    On Wednesday, in a conference call, LaRoche expanded on the process that got him to the point where he signed the two-year $24 million deal with an option for 2015.
