Nationals - Marlins lineups: Anthony Rendon sits as Nats face Marlins' All-Star rookie

← return to Nationals Watch

MIAMI — The Washington Nationals recalled Anthony Rendon from the minor leagues on June 4. He returned to their lineup on June 5, starting at second base in his second major league call up of the season.

In the 35 games the Nationals have played since, Rendon has started all but one of them. He will get his second day off since his promotion on Saturday as he sits and Steve Lombardozzi takes his place in the Nationals’ lineup.

Presumably, this is just a day off for Rendon, who is hitting .308 with a .348 on-base percentage since being recalled, and an opportunity for Johnson to get Lombardozzi his first start since June 23.

He will leave the rest of the Nationals’ lineup, then, to face Marlins rookie Jose Fernandez. The All-Star right-hander has a 2.83 ERA this season and has struck out 99 batters in 17 starts.

Like Nationals’ left fielder Bryce Harper, Fernandez is just 20 years old.

This will be the Nationals’ first look at him this season.

Here are the full lineups:
