PHILADELPHIA — For years, this place was not one that John Lannan really looked forward to pitching in. It was, for the large part of his career in a Nationals uniform, his own personal house of horrors — starting with his major league debut, from which he was ejected.

But the Phillies presented a good opportunity for Lannan when he was non-tendered by the Nationals this offseason, after spending most of the 2012 season in the minor leagues, so the left-hander made Citizens Bank Park his home.

Lannan has made just three starts this season for the Phillies, though, landing on the disabled list in mid-April with a quad strain. He will make his first start back from the disabled list Monday night against, of course, the Nationals.

This will be the first time the Nationals have ever faced the man who was once their longest-tenured pitcher.

For the Nationals, Denard Span is out of the lineup after fouling a ball off his right foot on Sunday, the third time this season he’s banged up the same foot with a foul ball. Adam LaRoche is also out against the left-handed Lannan.
