    The Washington Nationals were pleased with how outfielder Bryce Harper came through his first rehab game, and the 20-year-old was back in the lineup for Single-A Potomac on Wednesday. Harper is expected to play about six innings in his second rehab game. Published June 26 2013

  • Wilson Ramos could return to Nationals by July 4

    Much of the focus on the Washington Nationals' injury woes has been on outfielder Bryce Harper, and his much-anticipated return to the Nationals' lineup -- which could come next week. But the Nationals are also close to getting another integral bat back into their lineup as catcher Wilson Ramos finally nears a rehab assignment for his strained left hamstring. Manager Davey Johnson said he is hopeful Ramos will return to the active roster by July 4. Published June 26 2013

    When the Washington Nationals optioned Tyler Moore to Triple-A Syracuse on June 9, they did it to give the first baseman/outfielder consistent at-bats and allow him to regain his comfort at the plate. With right-hander Dan Haren going to the disabled list, and after just 45 minor league at-bats, the team decided he was ready to return on Tuesday. Published June 25 2013

    Dan Haren was expected to play catch on Thursday and go from there as he works to return to the Nationals' rotation feeling healthy and looking to improve upon his 6.15 ERA. In the meantime, the Nationals are likely to call up right-hander Taylor Jordan from Double-A Harrisburg to make his major league debut on Saturday in New York. Published June 25 2013

  • Ryan Zimmerman rests with shoulder discomfort, expected to return Wednesday

    Ryan Zimmerman was out of the Washington Nationals' lineup on Tuesday as they opened a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Manager Davey Johnson said it was a planned day off for the third baseman, but also intended to piggy-back off a team off day to give him extra rest for some discomfort in his right shoulder.     There was some question throughout the weekend over when Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper would be ready to begin a rehab assignment in the minor leagues. But Tuesday evening, after Harper worked out at Nationals Park in the afternoon, the team planned for him to head to Single-A Potomac on Tuesday evening. Published June 24 2013

  • Jayson Werth hopeful pulled groin won't land him on the disabled list

    Jayson Werth was chasing after a ball in right field in the third inning Sunday afternoon when he felt his left groin muscle tighten. It felt like a cramp, he said, and he hoped it was nothing more. But Werth, who's been battling the flu for the past few days, got a base hit in the bottom of the fourth inning and ran somewhat casually to first base. Moments later, he was removed from the game with what manager Davey Johnson called a "groin pull." He is hopeful, however, that he can avoid the disabled list. Published June 23 2013

    Dan Haren spent some time in manager Davey Johnson's office on Sunday morning as the Washington Nationals' management explained to the veteran right-hander that he was going to be placed on the disabled list. According to Johnson, Haren "wasn't particularly pleased to go on the disabled list, but he knew it was probably the best thing." Published June 23 2013

    Bryce Harper took batting practice on the field at Nationals Park Sunday morning for the first time since he's been cleared to resume activities. His task, they knew, was to remove Dan Haren from the Nationals' 7-1 loss to the Rockies. Boos rained down on Haren until he disappeared into the Nationals' dugout.
