  • J.C. Romero will start season in Triple-A, barring injury

Barring an injury that forces them to alter their plans, the Nationals will send left-hander J.C. Romero to Triple-A Syracuse after the team's exhibition game on Friday in D.C., manager Davey Johnson said Thursday. With Romero in Syracuse, the last spot in the Nationals bullpen would then go to Henry Rodriguez -- as has been the Nationals' plan from the start of the spring. Published March 28 2013

  • Nationals - Mets lineups: A Florida finale

Bryce Harper was back in the Nationals' lineup for the finale of their Florida spring training slate after a day of rest for his swollen left thumb. Jayson Werth was absent from the lineup after taking a pitch off his left elbow on Wednesday, but manager Davey Johnson said Werth is fine. Published March 28 2013

  • Wilson Ramos hits first homer since knee surgery, then adds another as part of Nationals' six-homer day

Wilson Ramos has spent most of his time in camp this spring working on preparing himself and his surgically-repaired knee for the rigors of a full season. But a few days ago, his mind finally clear of any worries about how his repaired ACL and meniscus would react when he returned to playing, Ramos turned his attention back to his offense. • Nationals - Braves lineups: Bryce Harper sits with hand inflammation, expects to play Friday

Bryce Harper was not in the Nationals' lineup on Wednesday as he tried to kick some inflammation in his left hand. Harper, who has reached base in each of his last 10 plate appearances (and is 9-for-9 with a walk) may sit out of Thursday's game as well, but expected to play on Friday in D.C. against the Yankees. • Dan Haren turns his eyes toward the 2013 season

Dan Haren pitched six innings on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins, and the right-hander won’t start another game until Friday, April 5 in Cincinnati. The fact that there will be nine days between his last spring start and his first of the season did not concern the right-hander, as long he’s done with his Grapefruit League stint. Published March 26 2013

  • Bryce Harper sill dealing with left thumb inflammation

Bryce Harper reached base for the 10th consecutive plate appearance Tuesday afternoon, walking in his third at-bat after getting hits in his previous nine, to bring his spring training batting average to .476. The torrid spring offensively, the gaudy numbers, they belie the inflammation issue in Harper's left hand that manager Davey Johnson said worsened on Tuesday. Published March 26 2013

  • Nationals - Marlins lineups: Dan Haren makes final start of spring

The Washington Nationals loaded the buses up one more time Tuesday morning to take all of the position players to Jupiter to play the Marlins. • Nationals release Chris Young

The Washington Nationals granted right-hander Chris Young his unconditional release Tuesday morning, thus ending his brief tenure with the team. Young, who filed paperwork Monday night to opt-out of his minor league deal in the hopes of finding a spot on a major league roster, is now a free agent. Published March 26 2013

  • Nationals notes: Henry Rodriguez, J.C. Romero and the Nationals' bullpen shuffle

Nationals manager Davey Johnson did not rule out the possibility that Henry Rodriguez will open the season on the disabled list, dancing around the question, while new lefty J.C. Romero turned in a solid first outing. Published March 25 2013

  • Chris Young opts out of contract with Nationals

Following his four-inning start against the Houston Astros Monday night, right-hander Chris Young filed the paper work to opt out of his minor league contract with the Washington Nationals. The Nationals now have 24 hours to put Young on the active roster and, while that is highly unlikely, Young left the door open that he could work something out to remain with the team. There is interest in him from other clubs, though, and if there is a major league offer out there he will likely take it. Published March 25 2013

There was a point on Sunday afternoon at which Jordan Zimmermann had gotten 27 outs since he'd last given up a hit. Yes, it was spring training. Chris Young walked into the Washington Nationals' clubhouse Sunday morning, put on his uniform and made his intentions for the immediate future clear: he will pitch for the Nationals tomorrow night in Kissimmee against the Houston Astros.
