Friday afternoon, Davey Johnson answered the one remaining question regarding the Washington Nationals’ Opening Day roster: Henry Rodriguez will be on it.
Rodriguez’s inconsistent spring gave some pause to the idea that he’d locked up a spot, but the Nationals had said all along that if he was healthy they had a place for him. They brought J.C. Romero to D.C. and considered him “a candidate,” according to Johnson, until after Friday’s game. Then they chose to send him to Triple-A Syracuse and keep Rodriguez.
The Nationals won’t have to formally submit their roster until just before Opening Day. But it’s set.
