NEW YORK — The Washington Nationals will open their 2014 season at Citi Field against the New York Mets on Monday, March 31.

They’ll welcome the Atlanta Braves to Nationals Park on Friday, April 4, for their first home game of the new season according to the schedule released Tuesday by MLB.

The Nationals’ first five series of 2014 will be against division foes, and they’ll get a crack at every NL East team except the Phillies in that span. Division games are prominent on the other end, too, with the Nationals’ final 23 games of the season coming against the NL East, including a six-game season-ending homestand against the Mets and Marlins that concludes Sept. 28.

The annual series with the Orioles will take place July 7-8 at Nationals Park and July 9-10 at Camden Yards. Other interleague dates feature visits from the Los Angeles Angels (April 21-23), Texas Rangers (May 30-June 1) and Houston Astros (June 17-18) — the latter a homecoming for Astros manager Bo Porter, a former Nationals coach.

Washington will travel to Houston (April 29-30), Oakland (May 9-11) and Seattle (Aug. 29-31) to round out its AL West swing.

The Nationals will be home on Memorial Day (Marlins) and July 4 (Cubs).
