Sen. Ted Kennedy is looking to extend his family’s presence in the U.S. Senate by lobbying to get his niece Caroline into the seat that would be vacated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the New York Post is reporting.

Interesting.

Has Caroline ever won an election? No, but she doesn’t have to win an election. She would be appointed to the seat by New York Gov. David Paterson.

Has Caroline ever pursued a life in politics. No, but she’s a Kennedy, so it’s in her blood.

Is there a lot of competition for the Senate seat? Some, most notably Bill Clinton.

Is it a “slam dunk” that Caroline will get the appointment? No, but it makes things awfully interesting, since Ted Kennedy campaigned for Obama after turning down overtures by the Clintons.

This could get personal. Pop the popcorn.
