The student union at the University of Maryland at College Park will show a hard-core porn film on Saturday, the Baltimore Sun is reporting.

The campus’ Hoff Theater will show “Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge” at midnight Saturday. The film’s distributor, Digital Playground, offered it to the student union for free, so no student fees are financing its airing.

University officials say the idea behind offering the film was to give students an alternative to late-night drinking and other dangerous activities.

Oh, THIS should do quite nicely, officials!

This almost makes you want to ask, “What were they thinking?” But then you kinda know what was on their minds.

The chaplain of the university’s Catholic Student Center said showing porn films doesn’t foster a positive campus atmosphere.  Yeah, you probably won’t see this movie featured in the university’s recruitment brochures. Then again …

Movie-goers will have to pay $4 at the door to cover the cost of staffing the film. And cleaning up afterward.

Digital Playground says “Pirate II” is the most expensive porn film ever made, at $10 million. Basically, that means that everyone involved in making the movie was paid in cash, not “trade.” Classy.

Full disclosure: My daughter attends the University of Maryland at College Park. And if she is reading this: You are spending this weekend at home, young lady!
