A moose was on the loose at the Saratoga Race Course, startling racing fans and track officials, the Albany Times-Union is reporting.

Wildlife officials eventually tranquilized the 500-pound female moose and transported it via a trailer back into the wild.

Track-goers placed bets on the moose in the sixth race.  It came in third and paid 40-to-1.  Some suspect doping was involved.

The moose wandered around the race course grounds, taking in the sights and sounds just like any other visitor to the famed race track.  There might be money to be made in moose tourism.
