Just caught up with Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld while waiting for practice to conclude today and he said that contrary to speculation, there is no plan to call off Gilbert Arenas‘ comeback for this season regardless of how poor the Wizards’ record is right now or how bad it continues to get.
“Not at all,” Grunfeld said. “He’ll come back as soon as he’s ready. He’s getting close.”
Ernie was vague on what exactly “close” means. Would Arenas come back in January? Later?
“I don’t know,” Grunfeld replied. “He’s working hard, but no timetable. Whenever he’s ready.”
Even if the Wizards are far out of the playoff hunt, the Wizards want to get Arenas back so he can get back into a rhythm with fellow All-Stars Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, and to see how the young still-developing talent meshes with his game.
