John McCain’s daughter says the Republican Party is full of technophobes.

McCain writes about her experience on the campaign trail with her father Sen. John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee. She kept a blog during the race, and she says people around her felt the online effort was a waste of time.


McCain argues that this mindset—ignoring the power of the Web—ended up hurting Republicans, particularly among young people.

“It’s often suggested that because the GOP was in power the past eight years, it became lazy and content with its success,” she writes on The Daily Beast. “So the party did not see the need to utilize the web as the Democrats did.

Besides outreach, the GOP’s relatively dismal online outreach harmed their fundraising efforts as well.
