Incoming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said this morning that President-elect Barack Obama will call today for an “era of responsibility” after he is sworn in to the presidency.

“Our government takes a new … ethic of responsibility, as well as financial institutions and banks, many of whom have gotten us into the mess we’re in financially,” Mr. Gibbs said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “If we work together as one country and one people, there are better days ahead.”

Mr. Gibbs said that in his five years working for Mr. Obama, the former senator from Illinois has not changed as a person over the last few years during his rise to fame and now the presidency.

“The president-elect is calm. I think he understands the moment he country is in and the mood the country is in. And i think he’s anxious to get to work,” he said.

Mr. Gibbs also said that he has worked hard to keep his weight down after being told that his briefings in the White House will be the first to be filmed almost entirely in high definition.

“It’s amazing what it will do to your diet,” he said.
