BALTIMORE | It worked for I’ll Have Another coming to Pimlico Race Course almost two weeks before the Preakness Stakes, so his connections decided to get the colt to Belmont Park very early with the Triple Crown on the line June 9.
I’ll Have Another will leave the site of his Preakness victory for New York on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. to beat the traffic. Traffic of visitors will likely follow soon.
He’ll be set up in Elmont, N.Y., almost three weeks before the final leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes.
“We’ll get in there early and get across the track,” assistant trainer Dennis O’Neill said. “I think [brother and trainer] Doug and I will probably both go home for four, five days and let this sink in and then head back to New York at the end of next week is kind of the tentative plan. And we’ll be ready.”
I’ll Have Another arrived at Pimlico on May 7 and got very accustomed to the No. 17 stable and the dirt track in Baltimore. It paid dividends in winning Saturday evening’s Preakness by a nose over Bodemeister.
