Redskins cut K Shayne Graham

The Redskins released K Shayne Graham on Sunday following his dreadful showing in Friday’s 16-7 preseason victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sirius NFL Radio first reported the news.

Graham missed field goal attempts from 29 and 49 yards. He shanked the 29-yarder badly to the left, and his 49-yard try at the end of the first half was wide right.

The Redskins signed Graham during training camp to compete with incumbent Graham Gano. Gano’s 69 percent accuracy rate on field goals last season was the worst in the NFL among qualifying kickers. His 11 missed field goals tied for most in the league.

Entering Gano’s second full NFL season, the Redskins felt the need to push him with an established veteran. Gano outperformed Graham in practice and made all three of his field goal attempts Friday (32 yards, 34, and 45).

It was not immediately clear whether the Redskins replaced Graham with another veteran.
