The Redskins and former Dallas defensive end Stephen Bowen have agreed on a five-year, $27.5 million free-agent deal that includes $12.5 million in guarantees, according to his agent, Pat Dye. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the agreement.

Bowen, 27, started nine games last season at right defensive end in the Cowboys’ 3-4 front. He has totaled 4.5 sacks the last two seasons.

He joins Barry Cofield, formerly of the New York Giants, as a new face along the defensive line. Cofield is expected to mostly play nose tackle now that Bowen is on board, but the Redskins plan to exploit his versatility, as well.

Bowen is three years younger than free agent defensive end Cullen Jenkins, who the NFL Network reported was one of Washington’s top free-agent targets entering this week.
