Beck responds to Moss' belief that Grossman should start

Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss made an impassioned plea on Monday for Rex Grossman to remain the starter.

Moss didn’t get his way, though. Coach Mike Shanahan decided on Tuesday that John Beck will start on Sunday against Carolina.

Now it’s up to Beck to lead a group of players who have differing opinions about who should be quarterbacking the team.

“Everybody is going to have their opinion, and I do like the loyalty,” Beck said when asked about Moss’ comments. “If I was the starting quarterback, I would want my teammates to feel that very same way about me. That’s what makes those guys good players is because of that loyalty. And if you want to be a championship football team, you have to have players that are loyal to the people on the field.

“So by no means will I ever get offended by anything like that. You just want to go out as a quarterback that steps into an opportunity, you just want to earn their respect by playing well. That’s my No. 1 goal.”
