The Redskins took a pair of defensive backs in the seventh round, selecting cornerback Richard Crawford with the 213th pick and safety Jordan Bernstine with the 217th pick.

At 5-foot-11, 191 pounds, Crawford is the third player from Southern Methodist University drafted by the Redskins in the last two years and seventh in Redskins history. He played alongside third-round pick Josh LeRibeus and Aldrick Robinson, a sixth-round pick last season.

“It was the best phone call of my life,” Crawford said. “I knew the Redskins were real interested in me. It’s not really surprising that they picked me up. I kind of had a feeling they were going to pick me up, eventually.”

Bernstine (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) joins left guard Adam Gettis (fifth round) as the second Iowa player selected by the Redskins. The safety said he feels comfortable at both safety positions and has college experience at corner. He is also a special teams threat, averaging 23.8 yards per kick off return in 2011.
