Receivers Brandon Banks and Aldrick Robinson are expected to survive the Redskins’ final cuts.
Banks made a successful push to make the 53-man roster with 156 all-purpose yards on only seven touches in the preaseason finale, a source with knowledge of the situation said. Coach Mike Shanahan said during the summer that Banks needed to make the team as a receiver.
Robinson, a sixth-round pick in 2011, has been assured he will make the team, he said via text message. His 49-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown in the second preseason game against Chicago impressed Shanahan. After spending all but one week of his rookie season on the practice squad, he demonstrated this summer an fallibility to effectively run a variety of routes, not just vertical routes designed to exploit his exceptional speed.
