London Fletcher’s victorious return to his hometown Sunday was tainted by an incident between members of his family and security personnel at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Multiple members of Fletcher’s family were arrested, and his aunt was hospitalized, Fletcher confirmed on NFL Network’s “NFL AM” show Monday morning.

Here’s the news story reported by Cleveland’s ABC television affiliate.

Fletcher discussed the incident at length on NFL Network. Here’s his take:

“Those are my family members,” he said. “It’s my understanding from the moment they got out of their car, they were harassed by Browns fans and things like that, even all the way into to the stadium. I had a 13 year-old cousin who was hit in the face prior to the game; this was going into the game, I guess in the tailgate area. So a lot of harassment that took place prior to the game and during the course of the game. And I’m from Cleveland. I know Browns fans and they’re rabid fans and they love their team, but I guess in the stadium [my family members] were being harassed again. The situation that led to the people being arrested was…one of the stadium security guys assaulted one of my family members. So, instead of diffusing the situation, he escalated the situation. It wasn’t the fans that they had the altercation with in the stadium, it was Browns stadium security.”

“I had an aunt who was hospitalized for, I guess, neck injuries and stuff like that I guess when the whole melee took place. She was hospitalized, but she did not suffer a heart attack, which I guess was being reported. But still details are emerging and this is from the understanding that I’ve gotten. It’s an ongoing legal situation that we’ll be moving forward with.”

Fletcher said his family plans to follow up with legal action.

“Obviously, we would like to see something being done,” he said. “I had four family members who were arrested, so it’s definitely disheartening and put a major damper on my return going home to play in the city that I love. I grew up loving the Cleveland Browns and love the city of Cleveland. Definitely I’m not happy about what happened because it definitely put a damper on my return and what was otherwise a great day for us being able to go in and win a ballgame. It’s definitely something that I’m upset about.”

Fletcher said his aunt was released from the hospital, but some family members still were jailed as of Monday morning.

“They’re still in jail at the moment, haven’t been charged just yet. But it’s a matter that all of the facts will come out later on. Again, I’m disappointed in what happened. I grew up loving the Browns. The city of Cleveland, I love that city. I love the team, and for this to happen it’s extremely disappointing.”
