Redskins injury updates (12/19): Will Montgomery practices with knee injury

Washington Redskins center Will Montgomery practiced Wednesday despite suffering a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain in his right knee in Sunday’s victory at the Cleveland Browns.

Montgomery was a full participant, but coach Mike Shanahan said that did not mean it’s a minor injury.

“He’s a pretty tough kid,” Shanahan said.

Montgomery said he had “no doubt” about playing Sunday at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Right tackle Tyler Polumbus also said he’s “definitely planning on playing.” He took part in Wednesday’s walkthrough and was limited in practice as he goes through the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Defensive end Stephen Bowen was a limited participant in practice after tearing his left upper biceps tendon early in the Browns game. Shanahan did not express concern about Bowen being able to play.

“He’s got upper part of the biceps tendon and you can play with that. Pretty painful right now, but people have played with that,” Shanahan said. “Now if it was the lower part of the biceps, he would be out and he’d have surgery. But the upper part of the biceps you can play with and hopefully he’ll be able to do that.”

Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander (right shoulder) was limited and wore a no-contact jersey. Alexander also said there’d be no problem with playing against the Eagles.

“I had a stinger out there so just trying to make sure the nerves and stuff kind of come back,” Alexander said. “And a lot of that will start happening once the swelling goes down, getting the strength back.”

Quarterback Robert Griffin III (right knee) was a full participant in practice. Read more about his status here.

Linebacker London Fletcher (left ankle) did not practice, but that is nothing different from previous weeks when he played.

Linebacker Rob Jackson did not practice; he was at the hospital for the birth of a child.

Also listed on the Redskins’ injury report as full participants were left tackle Trent Williams (left thigh bruise) and linebacker Ryan Kerrigan (ankle).
