INDIANAPOLIS | Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III ran the 40-yard dash Sunday morning in an unofficial 4.38 seconds. Even if the official time comes back a couple hundredths of a second slower, that’s still blazing fast.

Griffin’s time is significantly faster than Cam Newton’s 4.56 last year. Newton is more shifty than Griffin, though.

Be careful not to overreact to Griffin’s time. Everyone knew coming into the Scouting Combine that he’s fast. He was an outdoor track All-American in 2008 after enrolling early at Baylor. It would have been bigger news if he had run a slow time.

But making official a fast time will only solidify RG3’s status as a leading candidate to be drafted among the top two picks.
