The Redskins put in a waiver claim for defensive end Jason Babin on Wednesday, but Babin was awarded to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Washington, Buffalo and Jacksonville put in waiver claims for Babin, according to the NFL, but Jacksonville had waiver priority because it has the worst record of the three teams.

Babin hasn’t played as a standup linebacker in the 3-4 before, but the Redskins could have used him exclusively as a pass rusher in their nickel package.

Jacksonville owes him the remaining $1.69 million on his 2012 salary. Babin, a product of Western Michigan, had 18.0 sacks in 2011. The Redskins as a team this season have 20.
