The Washington Redskins on Tuesday released Ryan Grant and brought back Keiland Williams.

Grant was cut less than a month after signing with the Redskins. He was active in five games but got only one carry.

Grant was brought on after Roy Helu Jr. was lost for the season. He couldn’t get much of a sniff of the offense behind running backs Alfred Morris and Evan Royster.

Grant, who had a career-best 11 touchdowns with the Green Bay Packers in 2009, chose the Redskins over the Chicago Bears, he said last month, because of “opportunity.”

The opportunity now belongs to Williams, who spent 2010 with Washington as a rookie. He rushed 65 times for 261 yards.

The Redskins also made a practice squad move, signing cornerback Domonique Johnson and waiving wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux.
