The season-ending muscle tears linebacker Brian Orakpo and defensive end Adam Carriker suffered Sunday have created an opportunity for two Redskins prospects to return to the active 53-man roster.
Defensive lineman Doug Worthington was promoted from the Redskins’ practice squad Tuesday, according to a source.
And outside linebacker Markus White tweeted Tuesday morning about returning to the Redskins. White, one of Washington’s seventh-round draft picks in 2011, was with Tampa Bay’s practice squad after the Redskins waived him as part of the final roster cut-down earlier this month.
Worthington was on the 53-man roster for the final weeks of last season but was inactive for both games. At 6-5 and 311 pounds, he demonstrated power playing against reserves during the preseason. Consistency with his leverage is a main focus.
White spent all of his rookie season on the Redskins’ 53-man roster, but he was active for only two games. Like Washington’s other reserve outside linebackers, he has promising pass-rush ability but must prove he can defend the run well.
