The Cincinnati Bengals took some energy out of FedEx Field on their opening 73-yard touchdown, but things got much worse for the Washington Redskins soon after.
Left tackle Trent Williams suffered an apparent right knee injury on the Redskins’ second play from scrimmage Sunday and had to be attended to on the field.
Williams was blocking the Bengals’ Michael Johnson for running back Alfred Morris when his right foot planted on the field and he went down.
After missing the rest of the first quarter and much of the second, Williams returned with 4:36 to go before halftime. He left again early int he third quarter.
Williams was replaced by Jordan Black, who was out of football last season. Black’s last game was Jan. 2, 2011 for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Redskins were already playing without right tackle Jammal Brown, out indefinitely with a hip injury.
In the first quarter, it was announced that cornerback Cedric Griffin was questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
