UPDATE: The NFL announced Kyle Shanahan’s $25,000 fine on Wednesday afternoon.

“Any time you do what he did, you’re going to get fined, and that’s the nature of the game,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “If you don’t abide by the rules, you’re going to pay a penalty. Usually after a guy pays 25 grand, they usually learn very quickly.”

The NFL fined offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan $25,000 for his outburst at a replacement referee at the end of Sunday’s 38-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN reported late Tuesday.

Shanahan was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct after he disputed an official’s incorrect belief that a false start penalty by Fred Davis with 7 seconds remaining should result in a game-ending 10-second runoff and deny the Redskins one last play from the Cincinnati 39-yard line.

ESPN980, the team’s flagship radio station, reported Shanahan after the game used obscenities to berate the official inside the tunnel that leads to the locker rooms.

Shanahan on Monday issued a statement about the incident. He is scheduled to speak to reporters Thursday afternoon,
