Kory Lichtensteiger and Maurice Hurt might rotate at left guard Sunday against New Orleans, coach Mike Shanahan said after Thursday’s practice. Lichtensteiger missed the entire preseason after arthroscopic surgery to remove particles from his left knee on July 30.
He is healthy enough to play Sunday barring a setback, Shanahan said, but whether Lichtensteiger plays the whole game will be determined as it progresses. Shanahan has employed that approach in the past, including with Lichtensteiger and Derrick Dockery in the season opener in 2010, although that was related to performance and not health.
“If he gets too tired and he can’t go, then obviously someone would take his spot,” Shanahan said.
“Kory has always been a guy in pretty good shape. A lot of times when you go through rehab you get in pretty darn good shape, but it still takes a while to get in football shape and play that game.”
In other injury news, linebacker Brian Orakpo (chest) and cornerback Josh Wilson (hip) fully participated in Thursday’s practice and are expected to play Sunday.
