Art Modell, former owner of the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, died Thursday at age 87. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was involved in several memorable games against Modell’s teams.

“I had a chance to be around him a little bit with all the times we played Cleveland when I was in Denver, so I had a chance to get to know him pretty well,” Shanahan said. “I always liked him. He was a first-class guy who always treated me well and always had time to sit down and talk. When you’re an assistant football coach, not a lot of owners do that, so I consider him a friend.”
