The Redskins finished their draft by taking Rutgers running back Jawan Jamison in the seventh round Saturday.

Jamison is known as a favorable fit for the one-cut zone running game coach Mike Shanahan is known for. Alfred Morris’ 1,613 rushing yards last season ranked second in the NFL, but Shanahan previously stated he intended to deepen the team’s stable of backs.

Jamison (5-7, 203) forewent his final two years of eligibility at Rutgers to earn a paycheck. His mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer, and he wanted to help pay the bills, he said in a teleconference shortly after he was drafted. Jamison called his mother a “trooper” and reported she is doing well.

He doesn’t possess home run speed—he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds at the NFL combine—but he is shifty.
