Tight ends Jordan Reed and Niles Paul and fullback Darrel Young are all inactive for the Washington Redskins because of injury on Sunday and will not play against the New York Giants.

Reed, who sustained a concussion in the first half of the Redskins’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 17, did not practice at all the following week and missed the game against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. He passed a concussion test for the first time on Tuesday, was able to practice all week and went through pregame warm-ups.

Paul has been battling an illness all week that has kept him away from the facility, let alone out of practice. The details of Paul’s illness remain unknown, but coach Mike Shanahan said last week the tight end was experiencing nausea and headaches and if he was active, he’d only play on special teams. Paul took over as the Redskins’ primary kickoff returner, a role he held at the end of last season, for the last three games.

Young strained a hamstring in practice leading up to the Redskins’ game against the 49ers and said Friday he would be a game-time decision. He sat out that game on Monday and was not able to practice at all this past week.

The Redskins announced running back Evan Royster will take snaps at fullback. Royster has played only one snap on offense all season, which happened on Monday; the Redskins still seem likely to move tight end Logan Paulsen into the backfield as well.

Third quarterback Rex Grossman, left guard Josh LeRibeus, rookie outside linebacker Brandon Jenkins and cornerback Chase Minnifield, who was signed off the Redskins’ practice squad on Friday, are all inactive.

Wide receiver Josh Bellamy, signed off the practice squad on Tuesday when cornerback Jerome Murphy was waived, is active and is expected to assume Murphy’s role on special teams. Free safety Jose Gumbs, out since spraining his left ankle against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 27, will make his return and serve a role on special teams as well.

The Giants previous ruled defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, running back Brandon Jacobs and cornerbacks Trumaine McBride and Corey Webster out on Friday because of injuries. Tight end Adrian Robinson, left guard Stephen Gooden and third quarterback Ryan Nassib are also inactive.
