The Washington Times - December 15, 2013, 10:52AM

Kirk Cousins will make his first start of the season for the Washington Redskins on Sunday as they face the Atlanta Falcons in a road game at the Georgia Dome.

The quarterback made his only other start just shy of a year ago, leading the Redskins to a road victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Redskins made the decision earlier in the week to shut down quarterback Robert Griffin III, leaving Cousins as the starter and Rex Grossman as the backup.

The Redskins will be without tight end Jordan Reed, who will miss his fourth consecutive game as he attempts to recover from a concussion. Atlanta, meanwhile, will be missing free safety Thomas DeCoud, who also is recovering from a concussion.

Each team expected to be in contention for the division title at this point in the season, though each has had its own share of struggles and will be playing for little more than pride.
