INDIANAPOLIS—The Redskins promoted Mike McDaniel to wide receivers coach Saturday. He was an offensive assistant for the last two seasons. He helped his predecessor, Ike Hilliard, coach Washington’s receivers in 2012.

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is heavily involved with coaching the Redskins’ wide receivers, while their receivers coach fills a supporting role.

McDaniel, who turns 30 in March, becomes the third receivers coach since head coach Mike Shanahan took over in 2010. He was a member of the Houston Texans’ coaching staff when Kyle Shanahan was there prior to coming to Washington.

McDaniel played at Yale from 2001-04 as a wide receiver.

The Redskins this offseason allowed Hilliard to leave after the Buffalo Bills requested permission to interview him.
