NFL temporarily lifts OT Jordan Black's suspension so he could participate in offseason practices

The NFL on Monday temporarily lifted Redskins OT Jordan Black’s four-game suspension, making him eligible to participate in offseason practices, workouts and preseason games. The league announced the move.

The league suspended Black on Dec. 17 for violating its policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Black, 33, contended he took the drug for a medical condition the league was aware of. He lost his appeal.

Black’s suspension will be reinstated in conjunction with the final roster reduction after the 2013 preseason, the league said. He has one game remaining on it, which he would serve if he plays in 2013.

Black’s contract with the Redskins expires on Mar. 12, and he is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. The Redskins signed him from the brink of retirement last July after right tackle Jammal Brown aggravated his hip injury.

The Redskins on Monday also waived cornerback D.J. Johnson, the NFL announced. The team effectively gave him a tryout late in the season when third cornerback Cedric Griffin was suspended for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Johnson, at 6-1, provided a bit height at the position, which the Redskins otherwise don’t have. But he was benched after he broke down and surrendered a touchdown early in the Week 16 Philadelphia game.
