London Fletcher was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December after doing his part in leading the Redskins to the playoffs.

The veteran inside linebacker had three interceptions, 51 tackles and two sacks in five December games, all Washington victories.

“It’s a great honor but I think it’s more of an indication of how we played defensively. It’s a reflection on how we played as a team,” Fletcher said. “We’ve won all our games in December but I think it’s a credit to my teammates and the team in general.”

All that despite hardly practicing because of a left ankle sprain.

“I don’t think if you knew he had an ankle injury, nobody would know if it wasn’t reported on the injury report,” cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. “That’s just the kind of competitor he is, man. He kind of battles through in practice every day and somehow in the game he looks a hundred percent fresh.”

Fletcher has been dealing with the ankle injury for over a month and has yet to miss a start. His active NFL record streak of consecutive regular-season games played stands at 240.

“I just feel fortunate to be able to go out and suit up on Sundays and have been able to play well,” Fletcher said.

Fletcher went three straight December games with an interception and almost came up with another pick in the regular-season finale.

Fletcher is an alternate for the Pro Bowl and could wind up going to the game for the second straight year.
