Greetings, folks. I hope everyone is enjoying a safe Independence Day weekend. In that patriotic spirit, I’d like to direct you to a feature about Redskins fullback Eric Kettani that NFL Network aired earlier this week.

The feature followed Kettani’s promotion to lieutenant, which occurred last month in a ceremony coach Mike Shanahan and running backs coach Bobby Turner participated in at Redskins Park. It chronicled Kettani’s effort to juggle his commitment to the Navy and his desire to pursue his football career.

Kettani and the Navy did not always agree on Kettani’s priorities, and the two sides ultimately agreed he will perform public affairs for seven years. He served two weeks of active duty last month.

He mentioned during the piece that he received hate mail for prioritizing football over service. He did not elaborate, so that’s something to follow up on after players report to training camp on July 24.

And if you’re curious about Kettani’s chances of making the team this summer, I broke them down here.
