After the NFL’s annual free agency frenzy began at 4 p.m. Tuesday, the salary-cap strapped Redskins agreed to a two-year deal with punter Sav Rocca, a source confirmed. The person requested anonymity because the Redskins did not publicize the agreement.
Rocca, 39, averaged a career-high 43.9 yards per punt last season, which ranked 25th in the NFL. He punted through a torn meniscus in his right knee for about half the season.
Rocca stabilized the position in Washington after he took over in 2011. He entered the NFL in 2007 after an illustrious career in Australian rules football.
Rocca also holds for field goal and extra point attempts.
