The Redskins on Wednesday announced they hired Malcolm Blacken as their director of player development.

This is Blacken’s third stint with the team. He was a strength and conditioning coach from 1996-2000 under coach Norv Turner and in 2010 in coach Mike Shanahan’s first season.

He left the Redskins after the 2010 season to go to the University of Colorado, the same move former tight ends coach Jon Embree made. Embree left to become Colorado’s head coach, and Blacken served as the director of speed, strength and conditioning for the university’s 16 varsity teams.

Blacken replaces Phillip Daniels, who left the job last month after one season.
