The Redskins on Wednesday finalized the hire of former San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith, announcing he has the title of senior executive. The details of Smith’s role, however, remain unknown.

Smith, as the Chargers’ general manager for the last 10 seasons, oversaw five AFC West division titles and six seasons with at least nine wins.

His relationship with Redskins general manager Bruce Allen dates from their days in the USFL in the early 1980s.
