The Redskins on Thursday signed their seventh-round pick, former Rutgers running back Jawan Jamison. Rookie contracts last four years under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

Jamison is widely regarded as well-suited for the one-cut zone running game Redskins coaches Mike and Kyle Shanahan are known for. He is expected to compete with third-year back Evan Royster for playing time behind starter Alfred Morris.

Jamison left Rutgers with two seasons of eligibility remaining in part because he sought income to help his mother, who has breast cancer.
