The Washington Times - September 9, 2013, 04:29PM

Time to find out once again which local reporters are best at throwing out wild guesses. The annual media predictions challenge reconvenes with tonight’s season opener between the Redskins and the Eagles at FedEx Field. Judging by the picks, it looks like our logo this week should be the Kool-Aid man. Fifteen of our 16 panelists went with the Redskins in Robert Griffin III’s return to action. I mean – he didn’t miss a real game, I suppose, but you know what I’m saying.

I’d tell you who won last year’s challenge, but no one seems to know how the tiebreaker worked and my predecessor, Rich Campbell, took that info with him to the Chicago Tribune. In theory I could email or text him, but…This week’s picks also aren’t as graphically pretty as last year’s. This is a work-in-progress, folks. Next week we’ll make it look good.

What I do know is that Dan Hellie, Rich Tandler, Rob Carlin and Gary Carter were all 11-6 straight up last season in what I can only assume was some kind of massive NBC Universal/CSN conspiracy.  Hellie, of course, formerly of NBC 4, abandoned his hometown for the NFL Network this summer, taking his talents to Los Angeles in a move only LeBron could endorse. We kid, we kid. Still, I’m eliminating Hellie on principle and awarding the collective title to CSN. Rich, Rob and Gary can decide if Tarik El-Bashir and Chick Hernandez get to share in their glory and their bragging rights despite 10-7 records. Here are this week’s picks with the Redskins favored by 3.5 points:
