ON TODD WADE AND STEPHON HEYER:

ZORN:Todd Wade has a high ankle sprain and will be out a minimum of 14 days because that injury is not an easy heal and needs time. Stephon Heyer has a minor medial collateral stretch, and that may take two weeks to heal but no surgery is needed.”

ON THE CHANCES OF MARCUS MASON MAKING THE TEAM:

ZORN: “I have never thought that he wasn’t. He’s proven that he’s worthy of what we thought of him. He’s working hard and he ran the ball well [Sunday]. He was a workhorse in the game and he wanted more. He came to this training camp ready.’

*It would certainly seem like the Redskins are set at tailback with Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright, but maybe Mason can squeeze on the roster as a fourth guy. If another team liked his performance Sunday enough, it might be tough to try to keep him on the practice squad.

ON STUART SCHWEIGERT:

ZORN: “Because he’s been a veteran over a lot of years and didn’t show signs of being able to adjust quickly enough for us, we didn’t give him a year to do it because we want now.”

*He also mentioned later the team will not be adverse to looking outside the organization for more help at safety should someone of interest become available.

ON THE ROOKIE WRs:

ZORN: “They’ll have to re-evaluate their offseason program as young rookies because when they come back [next year], they’ll still just be young guys who didn’t do well in the beginning. They have to re-evaluate their structure on how they work into a program.”

*He also said Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas were the only two guys besides cornerback Fred Smoot that did not pass the conditioning test at the beginning of camp, which consists of 12 25-yard sprints in 53 seconds or less, a 60-second break and then another set of 12 sprints.
