While the scratches of left tackle Chris Samuels and strong safety Chris Horton were big surprises, Washington’s others were expected. They include cornerback Shawn Springs (calf), defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin (shoulder), running back Ladell Betts (knee), receiver Malcolm Kelly (knee) and rookie offensive lineman Chad Rinehart. Rookie Colt Brennan is the third quarterback, as usual. The absence is the fourth in eight games for Springs, the second straight for Betts but the first for Griffin in two years. Kelly had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Aug. 4 and has yet to recover fully, catching just one pass in three games. Neither Rinehart nor Brennan has yet to play a regular season snap.
