Samuels, Horton out

After the Redskins had listed them as probable on Friday, Washington just declared five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels and rookie strong safety Chris Horton inactive for today’s game here at Ford Field. Samuels sprained a knee a couple of weeks back but started last week against Cleveland. He missed practice on Froday for what coach Jim Zorn termed personal reasons. Horton has been fighting a sprained ankle, but he started against the Browns and practiced on Friday.

Stephon Heyer, who opened the year as the starter at right tackle, will start for Samuels. Mike Green, who wasn’t signed until Oct. 14 but who used to start for defensive coordinator Greg Blache in Chicago, takes over for Horton. While this is the first absence for Samuels since 2003, Green follows Reed Doughty and Horton as the third starting strong safety in eight games.
