Colleague Ryan O’Halloran reports from the field that tight end Chris Cooley, who rarely misses a day, isn’t practicing. We’ll find out why after practice.

Cornerbacks Shawn Springs (calf) and Fred Smoot (hip), both injured last week, are in pads. So is rookie receiver Malcolm Kelly, who has yet to play in a game because of a balky knee. And special teams ace Khary Campbell, a last-minute scratch last week because of an ailing quad, is riding the exercise bike and not practicing.
