New punter Hunter Smith wore gaudy red cleats during the just-completed special teams practice. No surprise that wacky cornerback Fred Smoot was the insipration behind the shiny shoes.

“Fred wears these and I liked them,” Smith said. “We kickers wear soccer shoes and we try tons of new shoes every year. These are just the next flavor of the week.”

Smith said kicker Shaun Suisham was calling him “Dorothy” because the shoes resembled the ruby slippers Judy Garland famously wore as “Dorothy” in the classic film, “The Wizard of Oz.”

Smith said he might wear the shoes in a game. Surrender, Ravens!
