DeMaurice Smith wins

Washington power-lawyer DeMaurice Smith has just been voted Executive Director of the NFL Players Association.

Smith, who was virtually unknown in the race to succeed longtime executive director Gene Upshaw, who died in August, Smith, 45, defeated former NFLPA Presidents Troy Vincent and Trace ArmstrongDavid Cornwell in the first round of balloting by the 32 player reps at the annual meeting tonight in Maui.
