The Redskins are on the verge of signing guard Jeremy Bridges, one of the 28 players who came to this weekend’s minicamp on a tryout basis.

The 6-foot-4, 326-pound Bridges has played in 62 games, starting 39, for the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers. Coach Jim Zorn said that Bridges made the biggest impression and would be signed if he passed his physical today.

Bridges, 29, received a 60-day suspended sentence in 2007, a year of unsupervised probation, 60 hours of community service and was fined $500 for pointing a gun at a stripper. The woman had been involved in a dispute outside the Charlotte club with one of his friends. Bridges admitted having the gun but said he didn’t point it at the woman.

The Panthers suspended Bridges for the first two games of that season for conduct detrimental to the team.
