Only the Redskins can make Practice Squad Signing Day a choatic affair.
To review the last couple hours:
The Redskins announce around 4 p.m. that they’ve signed FB Eddie Williams, WR Trent Shelton, DL J.D. Skolnitsky, DE Rob Jackson and S Lendy Holmes to the practice squad.
That left three open spots — interesting. (I’m assuming one of those spots was reserved for DT Antonio Dixon, but he was claimed and put on the 53-man roster by Philadelphia).
The list didn’t include QB Chase Daniel and LB Cody Glenn (a 2009 draft pick) — very interesting.
The information has been slowly trickling out. NFL.com reported Daniel signed with the New Orleans practice squad. The Saints have only two QBs — Drew Brees and Mark Brunell — on the 53-man roster.
Later, it was reported that Indianapolis had signed Glenn to its practice squad.
ESPN is reporting that QB Andre Woodson will be coming to the Redskins as a practice squader. At 6-5, he fits the mold of wanting a guy with height.
It will be interesting to see what happened with Daniel and Glenn.
Daniel put on Twitter yesterday he had a meeting set up with the Redskins to sign his contract once he cleared waivers. Did the Redskins take the offer back when they saw Woodson was cut by the Giants? Or did Daniel get a call from the Saints and decide that was the better option?
The same applies to Glenn. Since he’s a draft pick, he was almost a lock to be on the practice squad but if so, he chose the Colts instead.
