UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: SportsGrid.com obtained a two-minute video of the fracas and, yes, it’s as bad as described. Glad no one was hurt. 

UPDATE, 12:10 p.m.: A university spokesman told The Times no members of Georgetown’s party were injured in the incident and the tour of China will proceed as scheduled.

A brawl prematurely ended the Georgetown basketball team’s game in Beijing today with the Bayi Rockets. 

Here’s a statement from Hoyas coach John Thompson III: 

“Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams. We sincerely regret that this situation occurred. 

“We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University.”
